A New Look at RoboCop: Rogue City Comes Next Month preview

There’s been a resurgence in old 80’s titles finding new life in games. Game fans have recently seen characters like Rambo coming to Mortal Kombat 11, for instance. Summer of 2021 held a particularly interesting announcement. Teyon, the Developers behind Terminator: Resistance announced that they’re developing a Robocop game next under the title RoboCop: Rogue City. Even until today, very little has been revealed so far. However, a proper first glimpse is right around the corner.

Teyon stated that they’re developing a new game for the Robocop Franchise. The original movie, made by Paul Verhoeven, is now considered a cult classic. It tells the story of Alex Murphy, a Detroit cop who meets his grizzly end during an outing trying to clean the crooked streets. However instead of dying, Omnicorp, the corporation taking over Detroit, and its police department resurrect Murphy in a mechanical body, creating the “perfect” police officer.

The game aims to take place in its own rendition of what seems to be the first film. With RoboCop (Or Murphy) fighting against the prime directives imposed by Omnicorp.

However, after the game’s first announcement in the Summer of 2021, no footage, aside from a gameplay trailer, was shown. Until now. Come next month, on March 9th, Nacon, the publisher behind Rogue City, is going to be headlining the game during their Direct-styled live stream.

RoboCop: Rogue City launches this coming June, but there’s still plenty of information about the game that hasn’t been revealed. One of the more important notes about the game revolves around the character. Peter Weller, the actor Behind Alex Murphy, is reprising his role once more as the titular metallic crime fighter.

However, the major story beats of the game, as well as the general gameplay loop remain shrouded in mystery. Even aesthetic things like the classic RoboCop Hud aren’t fully confirmed. But with the gameplay trailer’s few elements and this fresh news coming down the pipeline, surely there will be better news to come for classic 80’s action fans next month.

The stream can be viewed on Nacon’s Youtube Channel, where the stream will kick off on March 9th, at  7 PM CST.
