Minecraft Legends is an interesting action-strategy spinoff from the ultra-popular survival builder game Minecraft developed by Mojang Studios. In this light-action real-time strategy game, you’ll command your blocky minion to victory unless the “Connecting to Your Account” glitch strikes your Xbox.
Note: The instructions in this article are based on the current-generation Xbox Series X and S consoles but should generally apply to Xbox One users too, who need to fix Minecraft Legends account issues.
The “Connecting to Your Account” Issue on Xbox
The “connecting to your account” issue happens when you try to start the game and see the message, except the game just seems to hang there. It’s frustrating since there’s no clear reason for this or additional error information. Luckily, we have some good advice to solve the issue. Many of these fixes work for the Windows, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch versions of the game. So read on even if you’re not struggling on Xbox alone.
Update the Game
While in most cases, games will update automatically without your help, your current version of the game may not be up to date, which could be the source of the problem. To check if there are any updates available, press the Xbox button, then go to My games & apps > See all
Here, highlight Minecraft Legends, press the Menu Button, and select Manage game and add-ons.
On the management page, you can check the Updates section to see if there are any pending updates. Alternatively, note the version number on display here, and do a web search
Check if the Servers are Down
To save yourself from wasting time troubleshooting things you cannot control, start by checking if the Minecraft Legends servers are having issues.
Some third-party websites, such as Technobezz maintain server status indicators for games like Minecraft Legends. Beyond that, you can go onto social media sites such as X (formerly Twitter), where other players likely complain about issues.
Try a Different Account
Try starting the game with someone else’s account and see if the account issue carries over. If you can log in with a different account, but your account hangs, you probably have to contact Mojang or Microsoft Support for help. If something is wrong with your account, there’s nothing you can do to fix it.
Just Wait
Sometimes, Xbox services are just slow. Since Minecraft Legends has no progress indicator, you’ll have no idea if it’s getting to where it needs to go. Wait 15 minutes; beyond that, something is probably wrong.
Press Some Buttons
You don’t just have to twiddle your thumbs while you wait. We’ve read some users have had luck pressing buttons on their controller to dismiss the account login screen. So why not mash a few buttons and see if that does anything?
Restart Your Device
Turn your Xbox off and turn it back on again. Internet connection issues affecting games on your Xbox can often be resolved by restarting your console. All you have to do on an Xbox Series X or S console is press and hold the Xbox Button until the power options menu appears. Then, choose to restart or shut down the console. If you shut it down, you’ll have to turn it on manually by pressing the Xbox button or the power button on the console itself.
Check and Restart Your Internet Connection
If restarting our console didn’t work, you should restart your internet connection. Turn off your router and modem, wait a minute, then turn it on again. You should also try other devices besides your console to check that the issue is with your connection.
If you need help troubleshooting your internet connection, check out Easy-to-Do Ways to Troubleshoot Network Connection.
Use Ethernet Instead of Wi-Fi
Regarding issues like this account problem, various minor issues can hurt the stability of your Wi-Fi connection.
The easiest way to rule out that Wi-Fi is the issue is by switching to Ethernet. This is the best way to connect your console and will resolve any stability issues. If it’s inconvenient to keep the console hooked up via Ethernet, you’ll know where the issue is and can look at improving your Wi-Fi stability and performance.
Check Your Router Firewall
Your router has a built-in firewall, and some of the ports required by the game may not be open. So, you’ll need to allow port forwarding to ensure the data from the game can actually make it through.
For Xbox, you need to forward these ports:
- Port 88 (UDP)
- Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
- Port 53 (UDP and TCP)
- Port 80 (TCP)
- Port 500 (UDP)
- Port 3544 (UDP)
- Port 4500 (UDP)
For Minecraft Legends, you need to open:
- TCP: 3074
- UDP: 88, 500, 3074, 3544, 4500
Turn Off VPNs and Proxies
If you’re using a VPN or a proxy service, turn them off. These technologies route your internet traffic through an additional layer of servers, so they can affect online multiplayer games.
Suppose you use an internet connection you don’t control (e.g., college internet in a dorm room). In that case, it’s possible (even likely) that you’re accessing the internet through a proxy server. If appropriate, you can ask the system administrator of that proxy service for help letting Minecraft Legends properly access the internet. If not, you must use a separate internet connection to play the game.
Running your game through these additional layers may also lead to problems with NAT (Network Address Translation), such as double NAT.
Disable Ad Blockers
If you have a router with a built-in Adblocker to filter ads from your local network traffic, try disabling it. We’ve seen some suggestions that some network ad blockers might interfere with the game and cause the account error.
The same goes for fancy modern routers that include antivirus software in the router. While this is great for protecting all the devices in your home, it could mess with some network services. This is certainly an issue on the PC version of Minecraft Legends, so if your router has an antivirus built-in, it might be worth looking at its antivirus settings.
Clear the Cache
To speed up various functions on your Xbox, some data are kept in caches. If something corrupts the data in your caches, this can lead to issues with games and apps. The latest Xbox consoles don’t have a straightforward cache-clearing setting, but it’s not hard.
Go to Profile & System > Settings > System > Console info > Reset Console and select Reset and Keep my Games & Apps.
If you don’t choose to keep your games and apps, you’ll have to redownload everything. That being said, using this method might delete some game and app updates, so you could still have some updates to do before things are back to normal.
Move the Storage Location
If you use more than one storage device apart from the internal SSD, try moving the game to that storage location and back again. If the secondary storage is an official expansion drive, you can play the game directly.
Delete and Redownload the Game
Unlike Steam or the Xbox app launcher on Windows, Xbox consoles don’t offer a way to verify game files. So, if the problem is that something has gone wrong with your game files, the only real solution is to delete the game completely and then download it again from the store. Thankfully, Minecraft Legends isn’t exactly the size of massive games like Starfield, so it shouldn’t take too long on a typical broadband connection.
Get in Touch With Minecraft Support
If all else fails, it’s finally time to contact the people behind the scenes. There are a few support options if you head over to Minecraft Support. This covers all the Minecraft games, and you can find many resources for questions already answered.
If you need more, there’s a live chat option on the page, where you might get lucky and find a person to talk to, or at the very least, a helpful chatbot.
