When someone thinks of Resident Evil, they think of horror. They think of running for their lives and fighting against horrible abominations beyond their comprehension. One thing they don’t usually think of is “cute.” However, that’s not to say the two elements cannot blend. After all, Capcom has just published a small animated short in anticipation of the upcoming remake of Resident Evil 4.
Resident Evil 4’s Cutesy Animated Short
Capcom released a video called “Resident Evil Masterpiece Theater” Showcasing a cute animation of Leon and Ashley in a sunny, less horrifying version of the Resident Evil 4 Village.
Entitled “Leon and the Mysterious Village,” the first episode plays out pretty similar to the opening of the game. Leon goes around the village, asking if it’s inhabitants have seen Ashley. However, none of them speak Japanese, so there’s a language barrier. As he asks everyone, the villagers, who are clearly under the influence of Las Plagas, surround him.
Then, someone approaches and cleaves his skull with an axe. A rainbow erupts from Leon’s head as he ascends into the sky, and “YOU ARE DEAD” is emblazoned on the screen.
This wouldn’t be the first time that Resident Evil has done something cutesy for marketing their games. Back when Resident Evil 8 was being released, Capcom did something similar. A puppet show entitled “Let’s Play in Bio Village” showcased the four main bad guys of the game as cute puppets, though the episodes were all in Japanese.
However, Capcom has taken those videos down since they first came out. Now, the only way to watch the RE: Village puppet shows is by watching re-uploads posted online.
As for Resident Evil 4‘s episodes, there’s only one. But, it’s entitled Episode 1, which could mean that more episodes of Leon and the Mysterious Village might be released soon enough. Although, with Resident Evil 4 Remake coming out this Friday, these episodes might come out after the game launches.
But, with just how silly these animations are anyone would want to check out what other shenanigans Capcom has up their sleeves. Resident Evil 4 Remake comes out on March 24.
