Sea of Thieves | Can You Play Offline?

The swashbuckling pirate adventure Sea of Thieves sees players taking to the seas in search of adventure and treasure. The game prides itself on an open world in which you’re not alone. Something can come to your benefit, or your disaster, at any time, depending on the pirates you come across. But, that relies on playing through official servers. What if you don’t have an internet connection? Or, what if you just want to play alone? Can you play Sea of Thieves offline?

Can You Play Sea of Thieves Offline?

Can you Play Offline in Sea of Thieves

There is no way to play Sea of Thieves offline. The game was built with the sole purpose of being a “shared-world adventure game.” Indeed, the whole point of Sea of Thieves is that you’re not alone in the world when you’re playing.

If you want to explore the seas by yourself, you can always sail away from anyone who you might think won’t be friendly. But you’ll eventually run into other players on your journey. It’s not a matter of if you will or won’t; it’s an inevitability.

However, despite the game’s strict “online only” policy, there’s still plenty of fun to be had. If you’re looking for a more single-player-oriented experience, consider checking out “A Pirate’s Life,” the crossover campaign with Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean. This will send you to a special version of the world in which you’ll go on a solo pirate adventure with the likes of Captain Jack Sparrow. Despite this campaign being a solo group experience, you’ll still have to remain online if you want to actually play the game.

Without an internet connection, you can’t log into Sea of Thieves, nor sail the seas alone. It’s a disappointing truth, but the fact remains the same Sea of Thieves is a fun experience for players who want to live out their pirate dreams.
