As it stands, there will be a physical version of Chrono Cross: Radical Dreamers Edition. However, it’s not as straightforward as Square Enix pumping out discs and cartridges. Instead, the physical release of the game is limited to just one region and platform.
Yes, the only version of Chrono Cross: Radical Dreamers Edition to get a physical launch is the Nintendo Switch release. That means PlayStation and Xbox owners will not be able to pick up a disc copy of the game. Instead, it’ll only be available on cartridge, for the Switch. It gets more complex though, because not all regions get this Switch release. In fact, it’s only coming out physically in Japan. That’s according to a listing on the playasia website. It notes Japan as the only region to stock this release.
It’s sure to come as bad news to Chrono Cross players outside of Japan. The blow is of course softened given the digital availability of this remaster, though. Equally, eager fans of the series can import a copy of the Japanese release, as it’s said to include English-language support out of the box. That’ll be no use to players on Xbox and PlayStation though, with no disc version in sight. The game is still playable, but adding it to your physical game collection won’t be possible.
